Professional License Disclosures for Out-of-State Students

Current and prospective students located outside the state of Virginia who plan to enroll or are already enrolled in a program at Piedmont Virginia Community College that prepares students for professional licensure or certification should review the disclosure information below.

Applicable programs, regardless of modality, are required to provide general (public) and direct (individual) disclosures to students, upon initial program enrollment. This disclosure applies to educational programs that are either:

  • Designed to meet educational requirements for a specific professional license or  certification that is required for employment or
  • Advertised as meeting licensure or certification requirements.

State licensure or certification requirements can vary from state to state, depending on each State’s laws and regulations. The licensure boards in each state are responsible for establishing the requirements for licensure/certification for their state. The State licensure entities are responsible for overseeing the educational and non-educational requirements for licensure or certification for their State.

The disclosures below indicate states where Piedmont Virginia Community College has made the determination that the program either meets or does not meet the educational requirements for professional licensure of that state. These disclosures do not provide any guarantee that any particular state licensure entity will approve or deny an individual application for certification or professional licensure. Such individual determinations are made by the state licensing boards and are fact-specific determinations. Furthermore, this disclosure does not account for changes in state law or regulations that may affect an application for certification or licensure that occur after this disclosure has been made.

Piedmont Virginia Community College will not admit students to programs leading to professional licensure or certification that is required for employment or marketed as such that are located in a state other than Virginia, unless that program meets the requirements of the state where the student is located or the student provides a written attestation of their intention to practice in Virginia or another state in which the program does meet the educational requirements for licensure.

Students should learn more about the credentialing requirements of the state where they hope to practice. Students are responsible for contacting the state’s licensure entity.
